Scientific Method Poster

Image
I enjoyed this project very much. I had learned The Scientific Method so it was nice refreshing my mind on the steps. There are so many different experiments that can be conducted using this method. Scientists of all ages can create a hypothesis and conduct their own experiments. All it takes is asking questions and making inquiries to become a scientist.

The Scientific Method

The Scientific Method      The scientific method is an experimental process used by scientists to answers questions created. The process is made up of six stages described below. Ask a question: Create a How, What, When, Who, Which, Why, or Where question that is based on a an observation you have. Construct a Hypothesis: An educated guess about your observation. It's an attempt to answer your question with an explanation that can be tested. Test the hypothesis with an experiment: The experiment tests the accuracy of your explanation and whether your hypothesis is correct or incorrect. in order to receive accurate results the experiment must be fair and consistent. Analyze data and draw a conclusion:  Once the experiment is finished collect your data and analyze whether or not they support your hypothesis. If the data does not support the hypothesis, create a new hypothesis based on the new observations. If the hypothesis is supported another experiment should be conducted to e

Science Inquiry: Explain

Science Inquiry: Explain: 5Es Learning Cycle     The 5Es Learning Cycle is a model based on the Learning Cycle approaches developed by BSCS. It is a 5 step pattern of problem-solving students use during lessons. These steps are; Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate/Extend, and lastly Evaluate. 5Es Learning Cycle steps: Engage: This step is were the task introduced, students make connections from past learning and experiences. This step is supposed to engage interest and involvement in the students.  Explore: Learners participate in hands-on activities to being observations. Students should have experience of the phenomena being observed. This is a time for collaboration between learners; sparking questioning, sharing, and communication.  Explain: Learners begin there analysis using their hypotheses, questions, observations, and experiences of the task. Elaborate/Extend: Learners know take there experiences and information and expand on it. Learners should use inferences, deductions

Science Inquiry: Explore

Explore: Science Inquiry:Inquiry-based Learning Model article  What are and how many forms of inquiry used in inquiry-based classrooms?     An inquiry is a process of gathering information and creating questions for further ones education of a given topic. The individual asks questions, creates new discoveries, and searchers for answers.    The steps of inquiry are: Construct a question or problem Make predictions Create an investigation of the problem to find data in order to evaluate the hypothesis Draw final conclusions Translate the results  Forms of inquiry: Confirmation Structured Guided  Open  Who is the funder of Discovery Learning?  Jerome Bruner is the founder of discovery learning. His theories centered around models, the importance of teaching and learning "optimal structure", curriculum, and lastly learning from discovery.

Science Inquiry: Engage

Engage:  Science Inquiry Response:  Neil DeGrasse Tyson's  Video     In the video,  Neil DeGrasse Tyson discusses the importance of science literacy and the act of making inquires. He discusses the power science literacy givings someone when they are able to understand the process of making correct inquires. He uses the examples of crystals which I thought were very interesting. I took an earth science course prior to this course where we discussed not only the scientific uses but also the healing purposes they have. He discusses how people will jump right to the price and want to buy the crystals before asking important questions. By asking the correct inquires you become more educated and aware of the uses, for example, what aliments the crystals can cure and how quickly.     I also thought it was very interesting how he compared scientists to people of other professions for example literary scholars. Scientists are known to be highly educated in the field of science, of course,

Welcome readers!

Hello readers, welcome to my blog The Elements of Teaching Science!     My Name is Megan O'Leary and I'm a junior at Mount Saint Mary College. I am an Early childhood education major as well as an English major.        I have created this blog for my science & technology methods course that I will be completing this semester with Dr. Smirnova. In this blog, I will be documenting my experience throughout the semester and my journey to learning how to effectively teach science. this semester will be an interesting experience learning remotely for the majority of my courses. Although I would love to be in a more traditional classroom setting the view of a zoom session on my laptop is becoming more normal.      I have successfully finished my first two weeks of the semester and have enjoyed my new courses. I have enjoyed the various uses of technology we are using in this course. We have completed Google Slides to introduce ourselves as well as group slides. In the slides we in
